8 Fun and Safe Spring Activities for Kids

While there are certainly plenty of good things about winter, like the holidays, building snowmen, and enjoying hot chocolate, most people can't wait for spring. Spring is a wonderful, refreshing time of year that brings about new life, warmth, and fun outdoor activities.

However, with the current pandemic still in full-effect, you may be wondering how to keep your kids safer and healthier this year. After all, you need to protect your kids from getting Covid-19. This might mean thinking outside the box.

We want to help. Keep reading for our eight spring activities for kids they're sure to enjoy while staying safe and healthy.

1. Go On a Nature Walk

There are countless benefits of being outdoors. Sunlight helps our bodies synthesize vitamin D, it helps our moods, and it encourages us to be more active.

Take your kids on a nature walk this spring through a local park or wooded area. This is also a great way to teach them about plants and animals.

2. Start Growing a Garden

Spring is a time of growth. Take advantage of the season and teach your children how to start and care for a small garden. Get a few seeds for fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and watch as your children are memorized by their growth over the weeks.

3. Make a Birdhouse

Building a birdhouse is one of the most interactive spring activities. You can purchase some supplies at your local arts and crafts store. Help your child design and build a simple birdhouse and hang it outside.

4. Build an Outdoor Fort

One of the most engaging spring activities for children is building a fort in the backyard. This can be as intricate or simple as you want.

They can use the outdoor furniture, blankets, and other objects found around the house. Otherwise, consider lending a hand and building something more permanent.

5. Put on an Outdoor Play

Children have something most adults have lost over the years - unbound imaginations. Encourage them to foster this sense of creativity by putting on a play for you, your family, and friends. You can get involved and help them design costumes, build sets, and make props.

6. Learn How to Fly a Kite

With warm weather comes outside activities for kids. While it's not quite warm enough to go to the pool or set up a slip-and-slide, you can teach your children how to fly a kite. For an added bit of fun, teach them how to make their own kite using a plastic garbage bag.

7. Decorate the House for Easter

Assuming your family celebrates Easter, the beginning of spring is the perfect time to start decorating. Children, especially, get into coloring eggs, making decorations, and dreaming of Easter morning. Depending on your religion, now might also be a good time to teach your children about the deeper meaning of the holiday.

8. Learn a New Sport

Finally, some of the best spring activities involve teaching your children new sports. Fun spring sports include things like tennis, basketball, and baseball. However, this can also extend to other activities like riding bikes, rollerblading, and playing simple outdoor games like tag and hide-and-seek.
